Amsterdam - often referred to as the 'City of Canals' is very compact and consists of 7 districts. Its 4 major canals - Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht, Herengracht and Singel (all with magnificent bridges) and their radial streets, offer magical architecture, scenic coffee sipping, unique shopping and aimless walking - so don't forget to bring comfortable walking shoes!

There is so much to see and do�and for many, one of the first things is take a canal cruise. As you glide along the canals on one of the traditional canal cruises, marvel at the unique architecture of the canal houses with their leaning facades, decorative cornices and gables.

The Anne Frank Huis Museum is located on the Prinsengracht Canal - with over 1000 visitors a day, its best that you try and get here early. The Van Gogh Museum has over 800 paintings and drawings belonging to the Dutch artist, which together with the Rijksmuseum (an Amsterdam landmark in itself), and the Stedelik Museum can all be found in the 'Museum' District of the city.< Rembrandthuis Museum houses an exhibition of Rembrandt's etchings and sketches. Art lovers will not be disappointed!

Jump a tram to the Bloemenmarkt (floating flower market) and take in the wonderful display and fragrant smell of fresh flowers or rent a bike and explore the city at your leisure (did you know that over ? million people in Amsterdam, go to school, work or shopping by bike every day!).

Whilst in Amsterdam, you will be staying at the 3* NH Tropen Hotel located near the 'Plantage' District of Amsterdam - just 3 stops on the Metro from Central Station or a short ride on the Number 9 tram. The hotel boasts stylish and spacious rooms all equipped with the latest facilities.

The famous Waterlooplein (with its sprawling flea market), Artis Zoo and Hortis Botanicus (botanical garden) are all within walking distance.

As the sun sets, its time to hit the Rembrandtsplein or Leidseplein - awash with bars, restaurants and clubs - catering for all tastes and budgets. Don't be surprised to see street performers and buskers as they perform around the pavement cafes and bars.

For many, no visit is complete without a stroll through the Red Light District - where scantily clad women ply their wares in illuminated shop front windows and for 'culture' with a difference, check out the Sex Museum - it's an education in itself!!

Visit the Verenigde Bloemenveilingen (worlds largest flower auction) in Aalsmeer, the charming town of Delft famous for its blue & white pottery, the village of Volendam (where residents wear traditional costume), the windmills in Zaanse Schans, the cheese market in Alkmaar and of course Edam - famous not just for its cheese but its narrow canals with gabled houses and wooden lift bridges.
