PERFORMING ARTS
Ukraine has a rich tradition in the performing arts and Kiev has many concert and theatre venues where visitors
can enjoy world-class performances at very reasonable admission prices. Generally your hotel service bureau should
be able to arrange tickets but do expect to pay a small handling fee. There are programme listings in magazines such
as The Kyiv Post and What's On.
National Opera House
Built in 1901 on the former grounds of the city theatre, a visit to the Opera House is an absolute must for those who
enjoy Opera and/or Ballet. The main season is from September until June and there are performances almost daily and also
matinees on weekends.
Tickets cost from USD $10 and the performances are of the highest standard - many Ukrainian artists are often invited to
perform overseas in the world renowned Opera Houses. Address: Volodymyrs'ka 50.
Top Tip: During the interval, do explore the various floors of the Opera House and enjoy the atmosphere of the renaissance
interior design.
The National Philharmonic of Ukraine
The National Philharmonic Society of Ukraine is one of the oldest in the country, tracing its roots to 1863 when the first
great symphony concert was organised by the Kiev Branch of the Emperor Russian Musical Society.
The National Philharmonic of Ukraine hosts many concerts and events of local and foreign arts, international contests and
festivals. It takes part in national and international artistic projects, presentations, creative reports, in artistic-cultural
and public events at participation of leaders of the State and Government, in scientifically-practical conferences,

House of Organ Music - Cathedral of St. Nicholas
St. Nicholas Cathedral was built by the architect V. Horodetsky in 1899-1909 and is the venue for concerts of organ music
which take place most Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at 19:30. Tickets are available at the church;

Kiev Circus
A traditional circus with live animals, acrobats and clowns. The program changes twice a year, shows start at 19:00 on
weekdays, at 13:00 and 17:00 on Saturdays. Tickets cost from approx. USD 5 and can be obtained from the venue.
