September is the start of the 141st Season of the Ukrainian National Opera & Ballet, when the Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian National Opera House yet again comes alive with the sound of music, song and dance. Traditionally the season opens with the famous opera Taras Bulba by Mykola Lysenko, based on Nikolai Gogol's historical novel or Yaroslav Mydryi (Yaroslav the Wise) by Georgiy Mayboroda. The forthcoming season performances will include: Opera La Boheme, La Traviata, Madam Butterfly, Tosca, Carmen, Manon Lescaut, Pagliacci, Boris Godunov & Zaporozhets za Dunaem Ballet Romeo & Juliet, Swan Lake, Korsar, Spartacus, Carmen, Bolero These are to name but a few… Performances are daily with additional matinees on most Wednesdays and Weekends.
